Aiding the Sudan Emergency Response

The Islamic Philanthropy Fund launches in 2025 with a pilot programme dedicating 100% of Zakat funds raised, without any deduction or overhead costs to aid the Sudan Emergency Response.

Since April 2023, Sudan has endured an unprecedented humanitarian crisis due to the ongoing devastating conflict which has left more than 30 million people in need of humanitarian assistance-over half of them are children.

More than 11.5 million people have been internally displaced, making Sudan the world's largest internal displacement crisis, while over 3 million have fled to neighbouring countries.

Acute food insecurity has reached historic levels, with famine conditions confirmed in parts of North Darfur and millions more at immediate risk of acute levels of food insecurity.

The lack of income, food, and other resources push displaced families towards negative coping mechanisms in exchange for cash or food, leading to severe protection risks. Women and children are disproportionately affected with as many as 16 million children facing protection risks including family separation, child marriage, psychosocial distress, and forced recruitment.

IOM has been on the ground providing lifesaving assistance since the onset of the conflict, including providing Cash-Based Interventions to those most vulnerable. This support directly reaches displaced families facing famine and acute food insecurity and enables families to meet their urgent needs, such as food, water, shelter, and medical care with dignity and according to their own priorities.

In emergency situations, cash-based interventions have consistently proved effective in delivering lifesaving support, including in hard-to-reach areas, and improving access to food where famine is present, while dramatically reducing protection risks among those most vulnerable. Cash-based interventions are urgently needed in Sudan today.
